Located in the central area on the edge of Tahrir Square, the Egyptian Museum is an unmissable stop for any kind of visit to Cairo. Opened in 1902, it was built with the aim of housing the memory of ancient Egypt. The museum within the museum houses the largest archaeological collection in the world of evidence dating back to this era, about 120,000 artifacts, including the contents of Tutankhamun’s tomb and most of the mummies discovered since the 19th century. The exhibits date back to a historical period from the beginning of the Old Kingdom (around 2700 BC) to the Greco-Roman period.
